project overload

i love pinterest.  i really do.  talk about inspiration station.
but sometimes i go on there and i am so overwhelmed due to the large amount of projects it makes me want to tackle.  and it makes me not tackle anything at all!  i just look instead of actually doing.

i am currently working on my first "real" crotchet project.  which is going great!  however, i decided to make a large blanket and it is taking FOREVER.  i am excited for the end and how it will turn out but it is going to take some time to get to that point.  i have used 5 skeins of yarn and probably need about 20 more.   if you want to see a picture of my progress find it here.

another project i am just about to start on with one of my best friends is this...
have i ever embroidered before?  NO!!
this looks like it may be somewhat intermediate.   but i can't pass it up because it is just so pretty!
doing it with a close friend will be good for moral support.  and probably much needed moral support.
i'll keep you posted on my progress.
*fair warning - i have a bad bad habit of starting and not finishing things*

this is an easy enough project.
and one that would be good for my morning coffee drinking habit.
 {could not find original source}

i have had my eye on doing something like this for awhile.

and this blanket is amazing.
talk about an amazing piece to make for a baby and have it passed down through the family.
this is a must and i will be doing this in the future!
wish me luck!!
what projects are you currently working on?  i'd love to see!!

painting our chevron wall - thrifty thoughts

when we updated our house this past year I was wanting
to do some sort of design on one wall.
wallpaper can be expensive.
we have one wall that i used wallpaper on and i
didn't want to have to spend that much again for another wall.
i thought about buying a stencil but then i came across this design that i liked.
my biggest challenge was talking robert into it because
i needed him to draw the design i was wanting
and i needed him to figure all the dimensions out.
i needed his engineering expertise and his ability to use one of his fancy engineering programs.
you should see some of his drawings that he has to do.
he totally impresses me.
so i knew he could make a drawing of what i wanted and figure out the dimensions for me.
a few weeks of nudging and asking and it was done!
next up.  taping.
since he is so good at dimensions that was his job too.
:)
it was a long job.
in fact 3 rolls of painters tape long.
he is a gem.
and finally. painting!
a little trick of the trade for you...
if you are painting something like this - paint the base
coat again over the tape before you put the actual color
you are going to use for the final coat.
this basically creates a seal and if there are any bubbles in the
tape or spots where the paint can sneak under...the base coat
will go under creating a seal and not letting the final color seep through.
thus creating a perfect line.
and here it is!  a long process but after you are finished
you never seem to really care how many hours it took. :)

nash's nursery

i'm excited to finally post Nash's nursery.
i just adore his little space and it is one of my favorite rooms in the house.
we spend a lot of time in there and i think as he gets older he will love it as much as we do.
it is a room he can grow into.

i wanted bright colors and had been loving the whole wooded theme.
foxes - owls - trees - etc.
our last name also means "wooded" or "woodlands" so it seemed to fit well.

robert built the barn doors.  he did so good.
i couldn't have been happier with how they turned out.

I know I am partial but i love it!

lighting revamp - thrifty thoughts

here is a super easy project i did a few months ago.
you know the a-typical lighting that is in dining rooms and entry ways when you buy a house.
well we had those in our home.
nothing fancy and pretty standard.
and of course with that matte black finish.

i wanted to change them but not have to fork over the money to do it!
i actually have had my eye on some new lighting for our kitchen - i have
been holding out for those!
so i went on a little searching spree for a color i liked
and something that would go well with the rest of my home.
purchased it.
and spray painted till my heart was content!
spray painting is so easy, fun, quick, and cheap.
and before you know it you have a totally different look.
quick satisfaction!

here is my finished product.

a picture a day - instaFriday

Before Nash was born I decided I was going to attempt to take a picutre of Nash everyday for his first year of life.  I typically do NOT do very good at things like this.  I have the best intentions but I lose interest after awhile or get busy and forget.
And honestly a year long project sounds like torture to me!! - But I thought this would be such a cool thing to have for Nash when he gets older.

So far I am doing good!  Go me!  I am 60 days in and going strong.
Originally I wanted to take the picutres using my good dslr camera... but then i told myself that I needed to be realistic.  Seriously Ashly!!
Having to make sure I have my good camera by my side everyday is just not going to happen.
So I decided to commit to taking the pictures with my iphone and I decided to use instagram to keep them organized.
I think I can manage to have my phone by my side everyday ;)

I am sure all of my instagram followers could be slightly annoyed by the overwhelming pictures of Nash but if that is the case I guess they can just stop following me.  : )

Here is the beginning of the project - Days 1 -20.
Once I catch up with updating my blog to where I currently am than I will just post the actual week that we are in.

Enjoy!
Oh and if you would like to follow along with the Nash
picture-a-day craze AND life in general find me on instagram!

weekend.

This weekend was nice and relaxing.
Nice to be able to spend the weekend with Robert.
I think it was our first weekend together in over a month.
We had a bracelet making party.
(Robert excluded - Madison and Garrett included)

Went snowboarding.
It was the coldest day this year that we had been.
Ironically Robert forgot my coat.
And you wonder... Robert forgot your coat?!?
Wouldn't that mean YOU forgot your coat.
Robert is so good that he always packs all of our boarding gear and gets it all together.
So I practically just hop in the truck
and know we have everything.
Yes SPOILED.
He is sweet to me.
So I never question if we have everything
because he is always on top of it.
Turns out he did this once forget my coat
on the coldest day of the year.
Poor guy felt so bad.  But it worked out just fine.
His nephew Tyson had an extra fleece coat.
I was a little worried that it would not
be warm enough but it was.
I just looked like a gangster all day with his coat.
I didn't mind letting my true thug come out for the day.

On Saturday night we went to the rodeo.
I have only been to the rodeo a few times and Robert's
family were raised being IN the rodeo.
I had lots of questions and he had lots of answers.
We got to watch his neice and nephew do each of there events.
It is a lot more entertaining when you know someone personally.
The most hilarious thing of the whole night
was watching the Mutton Bustin.
If you have never seen this... google it.
They basically stick the smallest children on sheep.
And the sheep run. And run fast.
The kid who stays on the longest wins.
Some kids were so little they didnt even know what was going on.
I didn't know if I should laugh or cry!
But I def could not stop watching.  It was funny.

Sunday was spent being lazy and relaxing.
Ahhh I love days like that.
Hope you had a great weekend too!
